BOSTON MARDI GRAS CELEBRATION – FEB. 17

Pick 1: The Beehive’s 8th Annual Mardi Gras Celebration: 

The Beehive’s 8th Annual Mardi Gras celebration on Tuesday, February 17th, 2015. The South End hot spot has spared no expense in making this year’s festivities as authentic as possible. Diners and partygoers alike can look forward to the traditional jazz style of Brian Thomas’ BT New Orleans 2nd Line Brass Band which will keep the crowd singing and swinging all night long!

From 7:30PM to 12:00AM Boston-based trombonist Brian Thomas, one of the most sought after musicians in the area, and his brass band will take The Beehive’s stage. Brian has been playing trombone since the age of 10 in his hometown of Rochester, NY and leads his own jazz quartet, big band, and funk power house Akashic Record, each of which feature his original compositions.

From 5:00PM to 1:00AM, guests can indulge in Chef Marc Orfaly’s Cajun inspired à la carte specials featuring authentic NOLA-style dishes such as Louisiana shrimp and grits, pan-fried catfish and Cajun seafood jambalaya. In addition to dinner, Mardi Gras revelers can enjoy entertainment at one of The Beehive’s two bars along with celebratory cocktails from sponsors Jim Beam, Old Grand-Dad and Maker’s Mark and complimentary Mardi Gras beads before hitting the dance floor! There is no cover charge for this event. Regular menu served in addition to all special items. Reservations recommended.

Pick 2: Beat Hotel 2nd Annual Brazilian Carnival 

Beat Brasserie (aka Beat Hotel), located in Cambridge’s Harvard Square, is shaking things up for Mardi Gras with its 2nd Annual Brazilian Carnival. Putting a twist on the traditional Fat Tuesday celebration, the restaurant will showcase an all-star Brazilian band lead by Brazilian native and percussionist Marcos Santos along with Latin libations from Privateer Rum and a special menu of Latin-inspired dishes from Executive Chef Ignacio Lopez.

Guests can begin their Carnival experience with Executive Chef Ignacio Lopez’s authentic Brazilian menu featuring dishes like Savory Pork Empanadas, Moqueca Capixaba (Brazilian Fish Stew) and Gaucho Steak with Chimichurri Sauce & Yucca Frite). To further explore Brazilian flavors, Mardi Gras revelers can samba their way to the bar for a special selection of libations from Privateer Rum.

The celebration will continue with the sounds of Marcos Santos and his all-star Brazilian band. A Bahia, Brazil native, Santos is a contemporary percussionist and educator. He commits his life to the study, teaching and performance of his hometown’s Afro-Brazilian music and heritage. Santos has performed for the President of Brazil, TEDx, and on Telemundo with the “One World Band” produced by MTV. His music has also been featured in the Oscar-nominated movie “Rachel Getting Married” with Anne Hathaway. Additionally, Santos has received several industry honors including the KoSA Recognition Award (2013), Outstanding Arts Performer Award from the Brazilian Immigrant Center (2008) and Outstanding Percussionist Award from Berklee College of Music (2004). In the education field, Marcos has lead workshops on Afro-Brazilian percussion and music for social change at notable universities and conventions including Carnegie Hall, PASIC and Harvard.
