If you’re new in town and looking to see some of Boston’s history but the walking tours aren’t really your scene, than start your night at Jacob Wirth, one of the oldest bars in Boston located in the Theatre District. Founded in 1868 this German-American restaurant has over 40 beers on tap and hosts 25 cent hot dog night every Tuesday. The bars biggest claim to fame was that they were the first distributor of Anheuser-Bush products. Our pick for dinner is one of the Jacob Wirth classics – the Sauerbraten. Once you’ve filled yourself up on German tap beer and Spaetzel, Uber it over to the historic Government Center where a few of the other oldest bars in Boston reside. We recommend checking out the Green Dragon Tavern, where the famous Paul Reveres ride was actually provoked. The tavern has nightly entertainment including live bands and even open mic comedy nights.

Claiming to be America’s oldest tavern with their first liquor pour back in 1795 you can find a DJ spinning top 40 mashups up stairs a live band on the down stairs Originally opened by Jimmy Wilson, Boston’s town crier for over 50 years, Bostonians flocked to the Bell in Hand Tavern for the food, ale and of course, the welcoming atmosphere that today’s Bostonians and tourists still anticipate and receive.
